. . . or at least the occasion for the launch of Harriet Tarlo’s The Ground Aslant: An Anthology of Radical Landscape Poetry (Shearsman, 2011) on Tuesday March 1st. This is a poetry that, in Tarlo’s terms, “challenges the divide between experimental or innovative and traditional or mainstream which has haunted British poetry, in all its many guises, since the nineteen-thirties”. The book with its fine cover by Julia Bell does what it says. Of the sixteen poets represented, eight read at the launch. Beside Tarlo herself we heard from Ian Davidson, Wendy Mulford, Peter Larkin, Carol Watts, Frances Presley, Mark Dickinson and Nicholas Johnson. I’ll have more to say about this anthology in due course. For the moment here are some images from the reading.
